The USB to TTL cable is the easiest way to connect to the serial console port of the microcontroller/Raspberry Pi/WiFi router. It can also be used for the connection between the computer and the test fixture. Inside the big USB plug is a USB<-> serial conversion chip. The end of the 36-inch cable is four wires-red power, black ground, white RX into the USB port, green TX out of the USB port. The power pin provides 5V @ 500mA directly from the USB port and the RX/TX pin is 3.3V level, used to interface with the most common 3.3V logic level chipset.
